• Unhappy With Your Business? Don’t Quit… Change It!

  • Are you unhappy with your business?  Don’t quit. Change it!

You know the saying from the school yard – “Winners never quit and quitters never win,” right?!

How can you ever expect to win at your business if you are always thinking of quitting?

If you are unhappy with your business you may wonder how to be good, I am going to help you do one step better than that.

Be better than good… be GREAT!  (I am going to use the acronym GREAT.)

    BE…

    G-grateful

Gratitude is the cornerstone for mental, physical and relational well-being.  It is foundation for all that is good.  When we are consciously grateful for having a business, flexibility, freedom, no glass ceiling, and to live into the possibility and capacity within us, it impacts our happiness and we will attract more opportunities, resources, and people which directly influences our bookings, ability to sponsor, and prosperity in business.

I love the truth in the quote by Melody Beattie that says, “Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life.  It turns what we have into enough, and more.  It turns denial into acceptance, chaos to order, confusion to clarity.  It can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, a stranger into a friend.”

It can turn chasing after the things you want that are “somewhere out there” into enjoying the present moment.  If you have found yourself saying you will be happy when you get this and that, when you get there then you will do this and that… and you always live sometime in the future, forgetting that you are living in the moment now that perhaps not so long ago was the this and that of yesterday… the things you were longing for in your past.  Are you chasing so much that you have forgotten to be happy and grateful?

Oprah Winfrey says, “Be thankful for what you have; you’ll end up having more.  If you concentrate on what you don’t have, you’ll never, ever have enough.”

So, when is the last time you called your customers, past hosts, or even your team members just to let them know how grateful you were for them?

I recently came across a poem that mentions gratitude and being thankful.

“Be thankful that you don’t already have everything you desire…

If you did, what would you have to look forward to?

Be thankful when you don’t know something…

For it gives you the opportunity to learn.

Be thankful for the difficult times…

    During those times you grow.

    Be thankful for your limitations…

Because they give you opportunities for improvement.

Be thankful for each new challenge…

Because it will build your strength and character.

    Be thankful for your mistakes…

They will teach you valuable lessons.

Be thankful when you are tired and weary…

Because it means you’ve made a difference.

It is easy to be thankful for the good things.

A life of rich fulfillment comes to those who are also thankful for the setbacks.

Gratitude can turn a negative into a positive.

Find a way to be thankful for your troubles… and they will become your blessings”

    R-realistic

It is true. Direct sales and network marketing are not get rich quick schemes.  They require work, time, relationships, customer care, follow up and follow through.

Don’t get discouraged when reaching out to folks and you start hearing the word “no” more than you care to.  You are going to need to make a few investments.  One in yourself and the learning process.  This is a business model that has been created to require relationships and a little skill building.

When I first started my business I thought that everyone was going to be beating a path to my door and as excited as I was (or more) about purchasing from me, hosting, and even joining my team.  After all, it was a “ground floor opportunity” with no quotas or minimums.  Did you think the same thing?

I also thought that everyone that needed my product or “help” would ask for it.  Wouldn’t it be much easier if people had a little sticky note on their forehead or a sign around their neck that said, “I need help”?   I think it would.

In direct selling only about 1:10 people will be interested in what you have to offer.  They might not even realize they need help, desire what you are offering as a solution, or have the capacity to engage.

Did you think, like I did, that everyone was going to be a yes?

There could be two things happening here:

    • You may not be asking enough people, to get enough yeses and get enough results, or
    • You may not be seeing that others do need what you have to offer and really desire your help.

If you have been in direct sales any length of time at all, you have heard this is a relationship business.  The best way to build relationships with others is to look for ways you can help them.  Usually people remember those who help them.  It’s a great way to connect, find common ground, and introduce them to what you have to offer them.  Don’t miss the opportunity to add value to others and in turn build great business relationships.  Keep in mind that some of the no’s you are receiving simply mean that they do not know enough to make an educated decision or no, it is just not a good time for them right now.  I do know one thing for certain….if you ask enough, you can get enough results.

The no’s are not rejection.  They are a delay in your destiny (but only if you allow it)!

Are you asking “enough” to get enough yeses and enough results?

    E-enthusiastic & energetic

Direct sales is not for weaklings.  I’ll be honest with you… most days I jump out of bed invigorated to meet the day and the difference I am going to make in someone’s life.  I found this when I started my direct sales business.  (I was not always this way, I assure you!).  Knowing that I get to work my business, meet new people, bless them with amazing products, free shopping sprees, and provide a business opportunity that can change the trajectory of entire families and their futures jazzes me!

Hearing no after no after no or having no one show up at a party or presentation… does not!  I have found that I can determine my energy level and my enthusiasm for my business by my attitude.

I know that I need to show up for business every day as my best employee.  I am the one that is the mover and shaker of my business!  I need to be enthusiastic and energetic about what I have to offer and who I get to help.

Positivity and possibility thinking are my biggest energizers.

When nothing is sure everything is possible!  Are you thinking realistically and about the possibilities?

    A-authentic

Keep in mind that even if you have tried direct sales in the past and it did not work out. It could be that you did not give it your all.  Even if that is the case, it does not mean that you are a failure or that you will fail at this business… unless you quit.

One of the biggest secrets to success in direct selling is to fail fast and move on.  What I mean by this is to try some things and it will either work or it won’t.  Keep doing the things that work and STOP doing the things that don’t.  Don’t internalize the failures.  They really aren’t failures at all. They are just feedback on experiments.  Oprah Winfrey says, “Failure is another stepping stone to greatness.”

    Keep it real!  Be authentic!

    T-tenacious & team focused

If you want a successful business, you have to realize that life is short.  Don’t be lazy.  This is your business.

You are responsible for your success or the lack thereof.

If you know that you are good at what you do, you have great products, you have a great company, and you are going to go forward with intent and purpose, you are doing the right thing!

Think of all of the tools, experiences and memories you are creating for you, your family, your team, customers and hosts.  No one can ever take that away from you unless you do, by not being tenacious and committing to yourself and everyone else that you are going to do this business and be GREAT!

Why did you start your business?  Was it to quit?  I don’t think so!!  You had dreams, desires, and this was a piece of the puzzle of your destiny.  You knew it deep inside.  What happened to that?

I believe it is still there!

You have to create the life and the business you want and then be tenacious in going out there to get it!

If you believe that this business is going to work for you and you keep working it… it will!  If you believe that direct sales “is something that works for some people”, you are also right.  If you don’t think this is going to work for you… you are right as well.  Ultimately, your results are up to you, and how you think about your business and the process makes all the difference.

William Shakespeare said, “There is nothing either good or bad but thinking makes it so.”

Could it be that you have become victim to stinking thinking?  Do you need to put one foot in front of the other, get outside of your office or from behind your computer screen, and get busy?

I can tell you the single BIGGEST MISTAKE people make in building a direct sales business is simply not starting and then always wavering in their mind as to if they think they can be successful, allowing it to stall them and lull them into inactivity.

If you have found yourself having made this mistake, adapt my philosophy.

“One of the best things about mistakes is learning from them.”

My mentor, Les Brown says, “You have greatness within you!  You must remain focused on your journey to greatness.”

Let me ask you… what do you need to change to create a successful business… to be GREAT?  I sincerely would love to know.  Go to one of my Facebook pages and post it there.  They are:  Direct Sales Specialist and The Christian Direct Seller.  What do YOU need to change?

Socrates said, “The secret of change is to focus all of your energy, not on fighting the old, but on building the new.”

I want to leave you with this parting thought spoken originally from the great Nelson Mandela –

“May your choices reflect your hopes, not your fears.”

Here’s to you, your success, choices, change in your business, and to building the new!

Income producing activities are the life blood for ANY business. However, many people believe they ARE focusing on income producing activities when really….they are just BUSY. Being busy does NOT always create more income. It is similar to running on a hamster wheel. Checking off all your daily tasks is great but, did you simply consume your time with “stuff” to do like clean the office, check your email, or surf Facebook? OR did you move your business forward towards building a fabulous income?

Have you ever wanted someone to “just tell me what to do” to be successful in business, or give you ideas to be creative to keep the business exciting?

Let’s be honest, we all get bored from time to time or feel like we have exhausted all the possibilities for prospecting, booking, sponsoring, fundraising, and creating creative meetings and events.

What about having a snapshot of what you were doing that created the success you enjoy so that you could accurately repeat it again?
