• The 5 Best Habits Top Direct Sales Leaders Possess

  • “What is it about successful direct sales leaders that separates them from the rest?”

    Some habits that I observed which stand out:

    1. They have a clear vision, time frame and visuals that support their dreams and are connected deeply to their motivational why.

    You can’t hit a moving target!  What specifically are you after?  When do you want it? How do you keep it in sight?  How do you celebrate it’s wins with your team and keep it alive for them while in process?

    One of my favorites is to create a vision board or a power point presentation I keep pulled up on my iPad to look at daily.  All of these things will keep it clear in your mind.  Everything is first created in our thoughts. We then can see it clearly as it manifests before us.

    2. They work their business from a daily and weekly perspective, and to do list focusing on income producing activities.

    To grow, you must plan your work and work your plan.  Benjamin Franklin said “If you fail to plan you plan to fail.”

    Leaders are disciplined in their disciplines.  They know what they are doing each day of the month, know their numbers, and track success.  They create their to do list each night before bed, prioritize it, and start the next day with a clear plan for business, not letting the distractions of busyness get in their way.

    Tracking your personal and your team’s activity forces you to take an honest look at where the rubber meets the road so you can course correct to move forward when necessary and work proactively vs. reactively.

    3. They have a professional coach and are consistently accountable to their coach, and mentor.

    You can quickly overcome your challenges if you are communicating with someone who will support you and does not have a personal agenda tied to your success or the lack thereof.

    4. They feed their mind daily with training from successful people.

    Daily inspiration inspires daily.  If you need pumped up, listen to positive messages, affirmations and success trainers that have walked the walk.   One of my best selling digital products is “The Word on Business, Speaking Success Scripturally.”  As a believer, I know the power of speaking positive scriptures over my life and business.  There is no more powerful affirmation that what the God of the universe has to say about me, my business, and my success.  I am sure the same is true of you.

    5. They are leaders of leaders. They focus on leading. 

    They understand the compounding impact of making wise choices over wishful thinking.

    Dave Ramsey says, If you will live like no one else, later you can live like no one else.”  When we make the wise choice now, it compounds and creates a foundation for success that multiplies and compounds over time and with others.

    Ask yourself daily, “Is what I am doing today leading others and moving me closer to my goal of being a leader of leaders?”

    If not, delegate tasks and activities that take you away from this goal.  Constantly ask yourself, “Is this something that someone else could be doing?”  What can you “pass off” to a child, spouse, or part-time paid or bartered helper?

    Some of the wisdom I have learned from my mentors in regard to leadership are:

    • If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader.
    • Leadership is not about a title or a designation. It is about influence. Leadership is influence nothing more, nothing less.
    • A leader is one who knows the way, goes the way, and shows the way.

    What example are you living for your team?  The speed of the leader is the speed of the team.

    The most successful leaders work from duplicable systems, have strong team cultures focused on sponsoring and team building identifying leadership qualities and coaching their leaders to success.
