As I was reading about dreams this week, in preparation for my interview “Put Your Dream to the Test”, on Dana Wilde’s Mind Aware Series, I came across a great excerpt from “Becoming a Person of Influence” by John Maxwell. I could not say it better, so here it is:Consider Their Dream
Then He brought Abram outside and said, “Look now toward heaven, and count the stars if you are able to number them.” And He said to him, “So shall your descendants be.” – Genesis 15:5
Most people who are dissatisfied and discouraged feel that way because they haven’t grasped a vision for themselves. As a leader you can help others discover their dreams and then get moving.
You may already recognize much of the potential of the people you’re leading, but you need to know more about them. To help them recognize the destination they will be striving for, you need to know what really matters to them.
To do that, find out these things:
- What do they cry about? To know where people truly want to go, you’ve got to know what touches their hearts.
- What do they sing about? In the long run, people need to focus a lot of energy on what gives them joy.
- What do they dream about? If you can help people discover their dreams and truly believe in them, you can help them become who they were designed to be.
So, my question for you today is… do you know what your team cries about – what really touches their hearts, what the sing about – what brings immeasurable joy to their soul, and what they dream about – why they were created and their divine purpose? If not, won’t you take the time do this today? I can promise you that they will be so honored that you took the time to spend just a few moments getting to “really know” them… and make a difference in their lives.
After all, the more people you help realize their dreams, the more efficient and effective you will be in realizing yours.
